Razorpay Integration
Complete Razorpay payment integration for Indian businesses — Payment Links, recurring subscriptions, webhook automation, and full India Stack support including UPI, NetBanking, and EMI.
What's Included
Razorpay Integration
Razorpay is India's leading full-stack financial solutions platform, processing billions of dollars in payments annually. With deep integration into the India Stack — UPI, IMPS, NetBanking, RuPay, and EMI options — Razorpay is the payment gateway of choice for Indian businesses ranging from startups to large enterprises. But beyond its core payment processing, Razorpay offers a rich suite of tools: Payment Links for instant collection, subscription billing for recurring revenue, Routes for marketplace payouts, and comprehensive webhook infrastructure. At SoniNow, we build Razorpay integrations that are optimised for the Indian market, compliant with local regulations, and designed for scale.
Payment Links
Razorpay Payment Links are one of the simplest yet most powerful tools for collecting payments — no code required for the sender, minimal code required for the integration.
Generating Payment Links via API
We integrate the Razorpay Payment Links API so your application can dynamically generate unique, branded payment links on demand. Each link is tied to a specific order with an amount, currency (INR by default), description, and optional customer details (name, email, phone, and notes). The Razorpay API returns a short URL that can be:
- Sent via WhatsApp, SMS, or email to the customer
- Embedded as a QR code in physical invoices or receipts
- Shared in a chat interface for real-time collection
Customisation and Branding
Payment links can be fully branded with your company logo, colours, and a custom domain (e.g., pay.yourdomain.com). We configure the checkout form to show only the payment methods relevant to your customers — UPI, cards, NetBanking, wallets, or EMI. Partial payments, tips, and minimum/maximum amount limits are configurable at the link level.
Status Tracking
Each Payment Link has a built-in status workflow: issued, partially_paid, paid, cancelled, or expired. We integrate webhooks for payment_link.paid and payment_link.partially_paid events to trigger fulfilment automatically.
Use Cases
Payment Links are ideal for:
- Freelancers and consultants — Collect payments immediately after project completion
- Insurance and loan payments — Send recurring premium or EMI links
- Event registrations — Send personalised payment links with attendee details
- Retail and e-commerce — Share payment links through social media or messaging apps
Subscriptions and Recurring Billing
Razorpay Subscriptions offers a comprehensive recurring billing engine designed for the Indian market, with support for multiple billing frequencies and payment methods.
Plan and Subscription Configuration
We design subscription plans using the Razorpay Plans API. Each plan specifies:
- Period — daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, or yearly
- Billing cycle — fixed number of cycles or infinite until cancelled
- Trial period — free days before the first charge
- Addons — optional one-time or recurring line items (e.g., setup fee)
- Offer codes — discount coupons (percentage or fixed amount)
Payment Methods for Recurring
Razorpay supports recurring payments through:
- Cards — eMandate-compatible recurring card payments with RBI-compliant auto-debit
- UPI AutoPay — Recurring payments via UPI mandate (National Payments Corporation of India approved)
- NetBanking — eMandate-based recurring for select banks
- Wallets — Limited recurring support for popular digital wallets
Subscription Lifecycle
Our integration manages:
- Creation — Customer selects a plan, provides payment details through Razorpay Checkout, and the subscription is activated
- Payment collection — Razorpay automatically collects payments each cycle
- Failed payments — Automatic retries with configurable schedules (Razorpay retries 3 times with increasing intervals)
- Upgrade/Downgrade — Prorated plan changes with credit/debit handling
- Pause/Resume — Temporarily suspend billing and auto-resume on a schedule
- Cancellation — Immediate or at end-of-current-cycle
Churn Reduction
We implement churn-reduction strategies: sending payment reminders before due dates, offering card updates through the Razorpay Customer Token API, and triggering dunning emails after failures.
Webhooks and Automation
Razorpay sends webhook notifications for a wide range of events — payment lifecycle, order status, subscription changes, settlement updates, and more.
Webhook Configuration
We register webhook URLs in the Razorpay Dashboard for relevant events:
payment.authorized,payment.captured,payment.failed,payment.refundedorder.paid,order.partially_refundedsubscription.charged,subscription.completed,subscription.halted,subscription.pendingsettlement.completed,settlement.reconciled
Webhook Verification
Every Razorpay webhook includes a signature generated using your webhook secret. We verify the HMAC-SHA256 signature before processing any event, rejecting unauthorised payloads.
Automated Workflows
We build business workflows triggered by webhooks:
- On
payment.captured— Provision digital goods, update order status, send confirmation - On
payment.failed— Flag order for retry, notify customer, update inventory hold - On
order.partially_refunded— Adjust accounting entries, calculate refund reconciliation - On
subscription.halted— Flag account for manual review, reach out to resolve payment issue
Reconciliation
Razorpay's Settlement Reconciliation API provides daily CSV exports and programmatic access to settlement data. We build automated reconciliation pipelines that match your system's payment records against Razorpay settlement reports, flagging any discrepancies for the finance team.
India Stack Integration
Razorpay's deepest strength is its integration with the India Stack — the set of open APIs and digital infrastructure built by the Indian government.
UPI Payments
Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is India's most popular digital payment method, accounting for over 70% of all digital transactions. Razorpay supports:
- UPI Intent — Open the customer's preferred UPI app (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM) automatically
- UPI Collect — Generate a UPI ID for manual payment
- UPI QR — Display a UPI QR code for in-person or scan-to-pay
- UPI AutoPay — Recurring payments with UPI mandate
NetBanking and EMI
Razorpay integrates with 100+ Indian banks for NetBanking payments and offers EMI options from major partners (ICICI, HDFC, Axis, Kotak, SBI). We configure no-cost EMI offers for select card networks, with the interest discount absorbed either by the merchant or by the bank.
Instant Settlements and Routing
Razorpay Route enables programmatic fund routing — splitting payments between multiple accounts (marketplaces, franchises, vendors) with custom fees and taxes. Instant Settlements (available for eligible merchants) settles funds within minutes instead of T+1, critical for cash-flow-sensitive businesses.
Compliance and Security
Razorpay is PCI DSS Level 1 compliant and a certified payment aggregator under RBI guidelines. We ensure that your integration never handles sensitive card data directly — the Razorpay Checkout or Elements components handle PCI-compliant data collection. Two-factor authentication for dashboard access, IP whitelisting for API keys, and regular credential rotation are configured as standard practice.
Testing and Deployment
Razorpay provides a test mode with test card numbers, UPI IDs, and NetBanking credentials that simulate every possible transaction outcome. We build automated tests covering successful payments, failed payments (insufficient funds, expired cards, bank declines), refunds, and subscription lifecycle events, before promoting to production.
From a first-time merchant with Payment Links to a high-volume enterprise with custom checkout flows and marketplace payouts, SoniNow delivers Razorpay integrations purpose-built for the Indian digital economy.
